Reopening the rail link between Tavistock and Plymouth to go alongside a new housing development in the town is among major issues that West Devon Borough Council needs the people to give their views on at a series of planning roadshows being held next month. Last summer, more than 500 people and organisations gave their opinions on the draft of West Devon's Core Strategy, part of the Local Development Framework which is the basis of all future planning decisions and proposals in the borough up to 2026. Further significant issues were raised during the consultation and the council wants to put them before the public so people can have their say. Some of these include : The suggestion that housing could be directed to the west of Tavistock in the Callington Road area linked to the reopening of the Tavistock-Bere Alston railway line. Whether most new housing in Okehampton should be located to the west of the town with new employment to the east. The idea that the towns of North Tawton and Hatherleigh take more employment and housing. The potential for Lifton to accommodate more development than currently proposed. Residents can have their say at ten separate roadshows which start on Saturday February 2 and continue for a month. Dates and venues for them are : North Tawton Town Hall, Saturday February 2 from 9.30am to 1pm Hatherleigh Market, Tuesday February 5 from 9.30am to noon Okehampton Charter Hall, Thursday February 7 from 2pm to 8pm Tavistock Town Hall, Thursday February 14 from 2pm to 8pm Hatherleigh Community Centre, Saturday February 16 from 9.30am to 1pm Arundel Arms, Lifton, Thursday February 21 from 2pm to 8pm Okehampton Customer Services Centre, Saturday February 23 from 9.30am to 1pm Arundel Arms, Lifton, Wednesday February 27 from 9.30am to noon North Tawton Town Council offices, Thursday February 28 from 9.30am to noon Tavistock Parish Church Rooms, Saturday March 1 from 9.30am to 1pm.
