MORE families will have the chance to experience the Polar Express this winter as the attraction is extending its run in Okehampton until January 6.

Extra train rides have been added to the festive 'North Pole' service at Dartmoor Railway, following high demand for tickets.

Inspired by the book by Chris Van Allsburg and the hit animated film, the officially licensed train rides have been operating in the UK for the first time since mid-November and were originally commissioned to run until December 30. The fun is set to continue with further rides running from January 2 to January 6.

Visitors from across the South West have visited Okehampton to embark on the Polar Express journey.

Set to the sounds of the film soundtrack, pyjama-clad passengers are invited to relive the story and see their favourite characters come to life as they are whisked away aboard The Polar Express on a magical round trip to the North Pole.

The ride schedules include 5pm and 7.30pm departures from December 27 to December 30, and January 2 to January 6.

Advanced booking is required and tickets are on sale now. Prices start from £20 per adult and £15 per child aged 2 to 12. A limited number of first class tickets are also available and are £35 per adult and £25 per child aged 2 to 12, or £5 for children under the age of 2. Along with upgraded seating, all first class passengers will receive their own Polar Express ceramic souvenir cocoa mug.
