Chagford 2

IN a match that was scrappy at times Chagford were the first to settle down and first half goals from Kiril Jaskov and Andrew Davis gave a good base to start with, even if they failed to find the target later.

The brightest spot of the day was the strength shown in the visitors' defence that comfortably snuffed out Broadclyst threats. When the hosts did penetrate, they found goalkeeper Scarry on excellent form.

This was a workmanlike, team performance from Chagford in the face of aggressive opponents.

DESPITE taking the lead, through Martin Haxton's 20 yarder, Chagford succumbed to second half goals from the home side.

For much of the first half, Chagford played good football, defended well but wasted chances in front of goal.

Haxton's long-range effort seemed innocuous but took a wicked deflection that carried it over the home 'keeper's head. Just before half-time Staverton equalised.

Multiple changes disrupted Chagford's second half and eventually

Staverton went on to put the game beyond the visitors' reach. However, this game was a useful exercise that gave the management the chance to run the rule over some new players.
