A MOORLAND farming event at Okehampton will provide an opportunity for questions and discussion. The event will start at Betty Cottles Inn at 11am on Tuesday, August 30 and will include a visit to Okehampton Common in the afternoon. It is aimed primarily at farmers, but it is hoped to attract representatives from a wide range of moorland interests. A series of short presentations in the morning will include the farmer?s view by John Hodge, a farmer on the common, and a presentation about the latest grant scheme, Environmental Stewardship. Dartmoor National Park will be represented on heritage issues and access and recreation. Simon Thorp, director of the Heather Trust, which has arranged the event, will provide an overview of moorland management techniques and encourage discussion of issues raised. Admission is free, but booking is essential. Contact Alison Young at the trust on 01387 723201 or email [email protected]">[email protected]
