THREE West Devon friends have raised more than £600 for charity, after holding a Christmas party in memory of a Hatherleigh woman tragically killed in a car crash in Greece.

Shelly Hubbard died in October last year, aged just 21.

Her friends Sarah Hart of Inwardleigh, Simon Mares and Gavin Leech decided to hold a party in her memory at the Burston Inn at Bow, which was one of Shelly?s favourite party venues.

The event raised £620, which was last week presented to the British Heart Foundation.

Sarah, who went to school with Shelly, said: ?We just wanted to do something in memory of her.

?We chose the heart foundation because her dad has had heart problems and another friend passed away from a very rare heart condition, so we thought she would have liked the money to go to them.?

She said Shelly had only been living in Greece a short time ? she died just after a return trip to England to see her family and friends.

Trish Hubbard, Shelly?s mum, said she was ?over the moon? when she heard of the plans to hold a party in her daughter?s name.

?I was really taken aback when Sarah suggested it ? we thought it was a wonderful idea.

?Shelly loved parties anyway and the Burston Inn was her favourite place,? said Trish.

She said the British Heart Foundation was close to Shelly?s heart, having seen at first hand the effects of heart disease.

She said the party had raised funds ?with so much love?.

?Shelly?s friends really did her proud,? said Trish.

The money raised by the party was presented to Bernie Steed, the Devon area organiser for the British Heart Foundation.

Mr Steed said he was very grateful to Shelly?s friends for organising the party and to Trish and Stuart Hubbard for supporting the event.

?It was wonderful that out of their tragic loss came this support for the British Heart Foundation in its fight to reduce and ultimately eradicate heart disease.?
