MID Devon Pony Club Tetrathletes enjoyed a great day in the sun at Kelly College last weekend for the Spooners Pony Club triathlon.
In a huge class of 40 mini girls, Vicky Medlyn did brilliantly to finish first with Charlotte Rowe second and Scarlett Geering fifth. Scarlett produced the joint best shoot of the class.
The final swimming heat of this class was fantastic with Vicky, Charlotte and Abi Rule, of Four Burrow PC, neck and neck for the whole two minutes. When the final whistle went, Charlotte and Abi were just a metre short of six lengths with Vicky only a metre behind.
In the team competition, Vicky, Scarlett and Charlotte came home in the lead, while the other Mid Devon team of Lydia Svensson, Lauren Fuller and Lucy Almond did well to come fourth.
As the season draws to a close the girls are getting better and better with Scarlett, Lauren and Lucy having pb runs and Vicky and Lucy pb swims.
The mini boys' class was also much larger than usual, but Daniel Worrall rose to the occasion, beating his great rival George Mills of the South Devon Moorland club.
Rebecca Rowe stepped up to the junior age group for the first time and produced a brilliant swim of eight lengths and 19 metres in three minutes, finishing just behind Eggesford's Kim Bland.
Over all three phases she was just out of the places, but it should not be long before she is up among the winners.
Two of Mid Devon's regular competitors were off doing other things — Georgina Geikie was in Kent where she thrilled all by winning a pentathlon competition and Laura Gomersall was at Moreton Morrell competing in the Dengie show jumping final.
