Tavistock 5

Marjons A 3

TAVISTOCK men's hockey team started the game in a controlled manner and soon found themselves opening up scoring opportunities. But against the run of play they conceded a soft goal when the home defence struggled to clear the lines after a rare Marjon attack.

This setback did not worry Tavistock who felt confident in the openings they were creating but again failed to clear from a short corner and witnessed another score for the students.

Tavistock eventually managed to capitalise on possession and Jefferies scored a well-deserved goal to close the gap on the visitors.

The comeback was short lived and Marjons again increased their lead.

The home side began to increase the tempo and just before half-time the ever-lively Jefferies shocked the visiting keeper with a stunning reverse stick shot which rebounded off his chest to be cleared.

Many younger teams would have been a little concerned about their predicament but the 'mature heads' of the Tavistock side knew the score did not reflect the game and within a minute of the restart had closed the gap with another Jefferies goal.

Edwards coming on for the injured Honey also got himself into the action and levelled the score much to the disappointment of the students.

With the Tavistock defence of Cowen, Rodda and 'new boy' Costello looking more composed and the tireless Turner working hard in midfield Tavistock ripped into the Marjon defence, who witnessed another two scored by Jefferies.

The scoreline could have been greater but for the post and the home side retired to celebrate at the Rock Inn, their sponsors.
