Tamar League A division match Ordulph v Milton Abbot AFTER a gap of two weeks due to fixtures due to fixtures and weather, the Taverners resumed their campaign against high performing Milton Abbot in what is turning out to be a very competitive league. Winning the toss, Milton put Ordulph in to bat and then proceeded to chase leather around the park all afternoon. Their main tormentors were the opening Ordulph pair of Melhuish and Rotton, who set a new first wicket 'stand' of 161. This Milton never recovered from. Dominated by the stylish Alan Melhuish, the Ordulph pair took control, despite accurate bowling from Milton's Baxter and Marker. Melhuish was ably supported by Jude Rotton, who in his first game of the season ground out a pleasing, 'workmanlike' 67. There was no relief for Milton with the dismissal of Rotton as new boy Andy Wright came in to score a rapid 39 with some powerful shots. Melhuish also continued to score heavily until his dismissal, ten runs short of his century. But it was a classy 90 from Melhuish, fuelled by an array of silky late cuts and cover drives that were a pleasure to watch. Ordulph finished on a formidable 224-3. Milton were never on the pace but spirited batting from Market (34) and Holding (25) gave them a respectable total of 155-9. Pick of the Ordulph bowlers was Andy Wright with some accurate left arm swing bowling (2-39), and later on Rob Poppe (2-12). Mention must also go to Woods behind the stumps with a couple of nice 'takes' for the Ordulph, and some good catches from Rotton, Wright and Evans. Ordulph Taverners won by 69 runs.
