AN Oscars award evening was held by Okehampton College's media department to showcase media productions by students.

The students from Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 produced the work this academic year as part of their GCSE and A-level coursework.

Their friends, families and teachers voted for their favourite music videos, film trailers and openings to determine the winners of the Oscars in four categories.

The 26 productions were projected onto a large screen in the school's Octagon Theatre, with popcorn and drinks served by students in the foyer.

The winners of the Year 11 film trailers category were Josh Cassels and Sophie Thompson with their trailer, Somnium.

The winners of the Year 11 music video of Shania Twain's That Don't Impress Me Much, were Alex Hurley and Hannah Cox, followed by Year 12 students, Aisling Evershed and Rebecca Vile, for their film trailers section of The Puppeteer.

The winners for the Year 13 moving image category, with their opening to a science fiction film, Black Sun, were Andrew and Christopher West.

The students produced their media projects using a range of technological equipment.

They are able to use the media department's digital cameras and video recorders away from a classroom environment, where they assembled and edited the footage using software in one of the department's edit suites.
