WEST Devon's outgoing mayor Cllr Christine Marsh has made two of her favourite charities very happy with donations totalling more than £8,500.

The mayor made the presentation of £7,000 to the Royal British Legion and £1,567.68 to the Okehampton Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme on May 3 at the May Fair in Simmons Park, Okehampton.

The money was raised during her year in office through events which included a fashion show, archaeology talk, performances by Tamar Valley Male Voice Choir  and Okehampton College Big Band, the civic and charity dinner, a golf tournament, cycle ride, a 'Big Breakfast' and a council bake-off.

The mayor's main charity for the year was the Royal British Legion.

Cllr Marsh said after the presentations: 'I wish to thank everyone who helped to towards making this a very memorable and enjoyable year in office and to their generosity in providing such a wonderful sum for me to present.'
