MAYOR of Tavistock, Cllr Norma Woodcock, joined a delegation from the town in a visit to the twin town of Celle in Germany recently.
The visit was part of European partnership week ? Cllr Woodcock was accompanied by her husband, Gerry, Chris and Yvonne Burchell and Mike and Julie Felles.
After a welcome speech from the Celle Oberburgermeister, Martin Biermann, at the Celle Rathaus, Cllr Woodcock attended an important conference of European mayors.
This was followed by a keynote speech to the Jugendaustausch Gruppe in celebration of 50 years of youth partnership between Tavistock and Celle.
Cllr Woodcock recalled friendships built since the first youth exchanges in 1952 and hoped such exchanges would continue far into the future.
Elsewhere in Celle, there was an exhibition of work by Tavistock artists. Photographs, videos and posters of the town were displayed in a big red London bus and the centre of the town was crowded with stalls representing Celle?s other twin towns throughout the world.
The week was rounded off with a series of workshops and seminars.
