In the Okehampton and district table tennis league there were only two division two matches played this week. Okehampton West End raced into a 9-0 lead against Okehampton B. Richard Rose won the first against Maureen Venton in straight sets. Although Martin Rose won the first two legs against Dick Randell, Dick fought back taking the next two, Martin winning the fifth leg for a 2-0 lead to West End. Maureen Venton took Trevor Drew to a hard fought fifth game just losing out 10-12, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9. In the last singles Martin Rose beat Dick Randell in five legs 11-4, 11-13, 5-11, 11-1, 11-4. Maureen and Dick beat Richard and Trevor in the doubles to save the whitewash. Moretonhampstead were at home to the league leaders The J Team. Although Nick Jackson beat Peter Denman in the first singles, David Shilston beat Naomi and Ken Underhill beat Sarah to put Moretonhampstead 2-1 up. Nick Jackson beat David to level at 2-2; Sarah took Peter all the way in the next singles, Peter winning 11-9, 15-13, 10-12, 5-11, 11-9. Moretonhampstead won the next two for a 5-2 lead. The J Team won the last two singles with Nick completing his fifth maximum against Ken and Naomi did well to beat Peter Denman in four legs, 5-4 to Moretonhampstead.
