Bodmin 1

TAVISTOCK men?s hockey team again faced a tough game missing a handful of players and having to reorganise.

Tavistock were probably looking to come away with a point from this game but with stout defending marshalled by the ever present Lethbridge, grafted a good result.

Both teams, vying for third position, knew this was going to be an important fixture and Bodmin started the more determined. They attacked at pace but the back three of Cowen, Rodda and Lethbridge contained all that was thrown at them.

Tavistock were beginning to find their pace and the speedy Way tearing into the heart of the Bodmin midfield and linking well with Heard were a handful for any defence.

Good linking between Edwards, Honey Snr and Way led to a majestic run through the Bodmin defence, and culminated in a neatly slotted goal by Matt Way.

Tavistock continued to pressure through the young legs of Honey Jnr and Holden Vet and were unlucky not to go further ahead via Heard.

Bodmin were always dangerous on the break and it was the athletic Bradley who again pulled a string of saves and timely tackles from Bellard, who kept the visitors? noses ahead

Midway through the second period, Edwards fired in a superb strike from a short corner which seemed to decide the game but Bodmin had a sting in the tail when they pulled one back from a looping short corner strike.

Man of the match: Matt Way.

This week Tavistock go to Bude to contest the second slot shared by both teams.
