FORMER player Colin Pethick, who has swapped his bat and pads for artist?s brushes and easel, gave Gunnislake Cricket Club a painting at the presentation evening on Friday. Colin, whose work is gaining quite a following, depicted a match in progress at the ground.
Young players, some sharing the artist?s name, featured strongly in the annual awards.
Much of the success achieved this year, when the team finished runners-up in the Chetwynd Tamar League, can be attributed to the ability and enthusiasm of its youngsters. Batting and bowling awards went to club skipper Andy Astley.
In the players? player award Danny Pethick, 14, received the most votes and collected the trophy. Danny and his older brother Kevin received framed mementoes in recognition of maiden half-centuries scored during the season.
James Boundy and Ian Rook received similar awards. James? for a match winning six wicket haul and Ian?s for being the leading catch taker. The award for most improved young player went to Arun Pethick. The ?duck? award was bestowed on Dave Ansell.
