Efford Girls U15s 3
Tavistock Town Girls U15s 1
ON a pitch resembling a cut hayfield, the girls struggled with fitness and passing. Tavistock were able to field seven players plus four subs, Cox and Doidge making their debut.
A reshuffle saw Hodge up front and Oliver on the right wing. Hodge managed to battle through but always found a strong defender waiting for her. Playing up the field in the first half the girls found passing difficult, although Piper and Ashworth linked up well to get some moves going.
Bassett ran her socks off and deservedly got player of the match. The first half saw Tavistock two goals down with two cracking shots.
The second half held out some hope with the ball running downhill over lumps of cut grass in the general direction of the Efford goal. Megan McCormick on the left wing was awesome, beating the defence time and time again and never giving up managed to get the ball to Doidge who just shot wide.
Tavistock began to get attack moves going and when Bassett pushed up with Cox ably covering, the girls began to look sharper. Bassett taking a number of long range oppurtunist shots. McCall made some brave dives at the feet of players but a free kick left her no chance.
Tavistock got a consolation goal when Piper fired home a penalty and the last five minutes was frantic for Efford, as Tavistock pounded the goal area.
This was a learning curve for Tavistock's new players who got a good run out and hopefully a learning curve for the new management team of Sue Hammond, Robyn Hammond and Andrew Derbyshire.
