EIGHTEEN residents of Mary Tavy turned out for a village litter pick on a damp Sunday and managed to collect 20 bags of rubbish!

Amongst the general rubbish were many ‘used’ dog poo bags, cans, coffee cups with lids, several hub caps and a large section of the front of a car.

The Mary Tavy Jubilee Group, a local community charitable trust which organised the litter pick, said it planned to hold the litter picks regularly.

A spokesperson from the group said: ‘We were given a set of pickers by a local resident, and a small grant enabled pop-up tubs and other equipment to be bought, so we’re now all set for keeping the village clean and tidy into the future.’

The Coronation Hall provided the kitchen and meeting room without charge for the community event and the villagers were treated to tea and cakes. Thanks were expressed to the Mary Tavy and Peter Tavy WI.
