MOST people have heard of World Book Day, but World Book Night, a project where free books are given away to encourage reading in the community was held at the end of April. 

Gavin Hamilton, executive headteacher of the West Dartmoor Federation, signed up to the scheme and was given three titles to give away to staff.

He said: 'We all encourage our children to read and explain how important it is, but do not always find the time in our busy lives to read ourselves.

'This fantastic scheme seemed an unmissable opportunity.

'I hope after reading the book, people will swap it with friends for a different one.'
