TO round off the winter season at Okehampton Golf Club, Marcia Holwill and Penny Deakin won the final of the winter foursomes.

Lady captain, Cherry James and her partner Lorna Rolf won the day at the lady captain's tea in March with a score of 37 stableford points.

Unfortunately, due to the foot and mouth crisis all ladies' county matches have been cancelled.

Okehampton ladies made a good start in the Sheelah Creasey winning 4/3 at Bigbury and drawing with Dawlish Warren.

However, the season on the home course has started well. More ladies than ever are rolling up for the competitions and handicaps are coming down.

The annual Mid Devon foursomes was played over two days at Okehampton and Crediton.

Winners of the Handicap Cup were Mike and Jenni Hutchinson from Okehampton with an overall score of 75 stableford points.

Another Okehampton lady, Chris Stevens and her husband Ray won the Okehampton 18-hole competition.

Trish Vick and Marcia Jones won their first round of the Daily Mail foursomes against Libbaton at Okehampton.

They lost to Tavistock on the 18th at Staddon Heights in the second round. The Elgar Rosebud stableford was played on April 18. In first place was Jenni Hutchinson with 32 points and second Pam Jarvis with 30 points.

They will now go forward to the final in the autumn.

Mary Keir and Shirley Reddaway beat 12 teams in the Coronation foursome with a nett 71.5. Second were Marcia Jones and Trish Vick with nett 73.

The final will be held at Tiverton later in the year. A few of the early competitions were non qualifiers due to the wet conditions — qualifying results as follows: March 28 stableford: 1, Penny Deakin (12) 35 points, Doris Jewell (33) 34 and Lorna Rolfe (38) 33.

April 11 Par: 1, Marcia Holwill (13) +2, Mo Huggins (13) -2, Joan Essex (39) -2.

April 18 stableford:1 Eileen Piper (36) 40 points, reduction to 34, Joan Essex (42) 37 reduction to 39, Jenni Hutchinson (29) 32.

May 2 medal: 1, Amanda Clifford (13) N71, Marcia Holwill (13) N71, Lorna Rolfe (37) N72.

May 9 Par: 1, Lorna Rolf (37) +3 winning on the back nine (reduction to 35); 2, Jenni Hutchinson (29) +3 (reduction to 28); 3, Dawn Philott (11) +1.

There are still a few spaces left for the ladies open on July 4.
