ALMOST £9,000 has now been raised for a charity appeal to send a West Devon man to the Netherlands for experimental stem cell treatment, with a total of £253 raised at the most recent fundraiser. The Prewley Moor Arms at Sourton held a 60s and 70s rock and roll-themed fundraising evening last month, for Paul Vanstone?s Get Me To My Feet appeal. The event was organised jointly by Derek Copeland, who provided a rock and roll dance display, and Launa Lamb, landlady at the pub. Thanks were also expressed to ?T and S? T-shirts for printing appeal t-shirts, which were sold at the event. More than two thirds of the £13,000 needed to send MS sufferer Paul, who lives at North Tawton, to Rotterdam has now been raised. Fundraising has continued during the summer with Exeter Wessex Technical College holding a ?cake and bake?. The event, which was organised by Paul?s cousin Danielle and her daughter Elize, raised around £500. A fundraising barbecue was also held at the Heathers, by Carol Hookway and Mick Vern, in memory of the late Frank Hookway and Tony Moore. The evening raised £164. Thanks were expressed to all who attended and the accordion player for providing live music. Paul?s sister Kim said she had agreed to have her head shaved along with Launa from the Prewley Moor Arms. The proceeds from the charity scalping will be split between Paul?s appeal and a local hospice. Staff at NatWest Bank in Okehampton also took part in a fun run to raise money for the appeal, for which the final amount raised is still being calculated.
