ON Sunday afternoon the traders and staff of the pannier market entertained over 200 senior citizens from the Tavistock area to cream tea, sandwiches and musical entertainment, all of which I hope and believe was greatly enjoyed. The reason for this event was to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the market charter being granted, and a similar party for children is planned for the end of October. All credit for the success of this must go to those traders and staff who contributed not only cash and gifts but in many cases a large amount of time and effort, and also to those local companies that so kindly sponsored the event. I cannot name each one but I would like to extend special thanks to Crebers, Somerfield, Definitely Devon, Endacotts, Pens and Moor and Jane?s Cakes for their support. I would also like to name the heroes of the day and say a personal thank you for making it a wonderful party, they being Caroline, Bet, Jane, Eleanor, Julia, Paul, David, Yvonne, Leonard, Shaun, Sally, Davine, Marlene and Jan, and the town hall staff. You worked wonderfully and the success was rightfully yours ? thank you. Mike Souttar Deputy Market Reeve Tavistock
