Belstone v

Old Suttonians

BELSTONE put in a solid all-round performance last Sunday against Old Suttonians, recording a 147 run win to put them in good heart for the start of the league season next weekend.

Topped and tailed by typically lively cameos from Richard Drake (17) and Harry Bushin (19), most of the other batsmen also contributed well — albeit in more sedate innings.

Opener Sam Ewen with 22, Chris Walpole with five boundaries in 31, and Jimmy Ewen, top scoring batsman with 38, helped by several dropped catches and 43 extras given away by Old Sutts, enabled the home team to finish their 40 overs on 204 for eight.

Old Sutts, batting with only nine men, were behind the asking rate from the start but reached 37 for one before David Binns held a sharp return catch to dismiss Kenny Sandell for 10. When top-scorer Adam King (22) was run out by Sam Ewen's throw from third man, the innings folded, with the last six wickets tumbling for 11 runs as Belstone skipper Scott Tremain took the final four wickets at a cost of just one run.
