THE MUSEUM of Dartmoor Life and the Dartmoor Railway Supporters' Association are among the organisations to benefit from the latest round of grants by Okehampton United Charity and Okehampton Education Foundation.

The trustees of OUC were given a tour of the museum by manager Andrew Thompson before holding their monthly meeting in the museum's exhibition room on October 31.

The United Charity chose to donate £5,000 to the museum to contribute toward their annual running costs. The Dartmoor Railway Supporters' Association received a grant of £950 to contribute to new tools and training, to help them refurbish a MK1 coach.

West Devon Methodist Circuit's youth work project will receive £5,000 to contribute to their annual running costs. A one-off grant was given to Okehampton and District Chamber of Trade to contribute to the pilot project of a town events manager in 2013.

A grant of £495 will go to the Mary Budding Trust to contribute to the support of a child in Okehampton and grants totalling £1,200 were awarded to support adults within the town.

The Okehampton United Charity has now awarded grants totally approximately £406,032 in 2012.

Trustees of Okehampton Educational Foundation have agreed 101 individual grants totalling £77,600 over the year to support students residing within Okehampton and its hamlets to continue with further education, sporting excellence and art excellence. Individual grants have increased year on year since their introduction a decade ago.

An allocation of £17,000 for Okehampton Primary School is also being held for when a project is put forward to them.

The OUC and Okehampton Educational Foundation provide grants to local organisations, schools and people to provide charitable benefits to the residents of Okehampton.
