SO the MPs have decided against reforming their £90- million a year allowance system. The time has come for MPs' salaries to be paid for by their constituents' council tax. Not only would this mean that for the first time the Celtic nations would be paying their MP's salary, it would also restore the link between MPs being employed by their constituents to represent them. Extra expenses for Central Devon would have to be claimed from Devon County Council with receipts and only paid if they agree the right of claim.   Likewise, why not make an MP's salary performance- related? English constituents receive 20 per cent less spending from the UK Treasury than Scottish constituents, so why not pay English MPs 20 per cent less salary than Scottish MPs?
