HEAVY rain failed to deter members of the Tamar Community Trust from tackling a major clean-up around Bere Alston Parish Hall last weekend.

For many years the area has been used as a 'den' for young people in the village and the ground had become littered with drink cans, bottles and other rubbish.

On behalf of the Bere Ferrers Parish Council, Cllr Mike Benson asked John Page of the trust if members could assist with the task.

The team managed to recover more than ten sacks of rubbish plus assorted metal car parts and other assorted material, which the parish council will dispose of.

Chairman of the parish council Brian Lamb said: 'I must express my thanks to members of the trust for their sterling efforts cleaning up an area that had become an eyesore.

'Even I didn't realise how much was there. It will now be up to the parish council to ensure the area remains clear.'
