A VALUED member of West Devon Homes took early retirement this month, after many years loyal service in the social housing section. Maurice Playle started his working life as a plumber in London, before moving to Devon to join West Devon District Council, as it was then known, in 1979. He became the senior maintenance officer for West Devon Homes when it took over the borough council?s housing stock, and became involved in the development department in July 2004. Jean Peters, chief executive of West Devon Homes, said: ?Maurice has been a dedicated and committed member of the team and a pleasure to work with. ?Our technical services section would tell you he seems to know every brick of every one of our properties ? he will be greatly missed by staff and customers alike.? Though retiring from West Devon Homes, Maurice does not intend to put his feet up ? he will be returning to his plumbing roots. During a presentation ceremony, Maurice said he had enjoyed working for West Devon Homes and said many of the staff would remain firm friends.
