A TAVISTOCK businessman has hit out at the ?incompetent? postal service, after weeks of post being delivered to the wrong address. The problems were exacerbated this week when an important package destined for Tavistock Youthwize at Pixon Lane Industrial Estate, just metres away from the local sorting office, was delivered to the wrong industrial estate. Owner of the Tavistock Picture Framing Gallery Martin Hawkins opened the package by mistake last Friday morning. ?I had a whole bundle of post which I just opened. One was meant for Youthwize and it contained someone?s complete identity ? passport, birth certificate, medical details and everything. ?It?s scandalous ? the post office should take more care . It?s totally incompetent.? ?This delivery could have fallen into the wrong hands ? a passport and birth certificate are worth a lot of money on the black market.? Services manager at Youthwize Diane Simpson said the address was clearly typed on the envelope. She said: ?It was blatantly obvious who it was meant for. I am a bit disappointed especially when we have a lot of confidential information about people sent in the post.? Spokeswoman for Royal Mail Jane Thomas said there had been no complaints raised by the Tavistock Picture Framing Gallery in the last two years: ?Any complaints reported to us are taken very seriously,? she said. She said there was a regular postman on that round who was very good at his job ? the delivery manager would be making further investigations to find out what had happened in this particular case. She said post received for the Gallery would be monitored and random daily checks carried out in future.
