A NOT-for-profit community interest company from Hatherleigh has been successful in its application to create a £25,000 disability inclusive play area.
Made-Well, based at West Fishleigh Farm, offers a range of indoor and outdoor activities for everybody.
It applied to Pocket Parks Plus grant funding from the Ministry of Housing Community and Local Government in January this year and received the good news shortly after that Made-Well was successful.
Laura Feaver, part of the management team at Made-Well, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to share the news that we have been successful with our application to create a disability inclusive play area here at Made-Well.’
Four pieces of equipment will be accessible to all — these include a team swing seat, a gravity bowl, gravity rider and an indie-plus (a slide set and climbing frame for wheelchair users).
‘We feel that the addition of this play area will enhance the experience of coming to Made-Well for all visitors and offer extra ways to relax, enjoy and appreciate green space as a “go to” place for people coming to Made-Well , the local community and out of town visitors,’ added Laura.
The new play area is expected to be completed by mid-June this year.
Made-Well is an inclusive service with the ethos of actively encouraging full participation irrespective of age, background, qualifications, training or ability.
In 2010 Made-Well was amongst the successful applicants to receive funding from the Local Food Programme.
This enabled the company to create a dedicated horticulture site along with training facilities and kitchen, a shop and a cafe to promote a better understanding and appreciation of food and healthy lifestyles and to give local people access to affordable home-grown food.
‘We reach out to all people, especially those with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, mental illness and loneliness,’ said Laura.
‘With a café, gardens, friendly animals open to the public, acres of farmland with sheep and cattle, vegetables and plants for sale, annual events and activities open to all, this is a commercial venture serving the community and offering real opportunities for development and growth.’

Recently Made-Well organised its first community litter pick around Hatherleigh.
A good amount of people turned out to clear the area. Made-Well plans to hold the events on the last Tuesday of every month in the Hatherleigh and Okehampton areas.
