Okehampton Argyle 4

Chagford 4

(aet - 4-5 on penalties)

A HAT-TRICK from Danny Maddax was not enough to take Okehampton through to the next round. They had enough chances to seal the match but poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping from Chagford's young keeper frustrated them.

The match started well for Okehampton when Michael Vernon found space on the edge of the box and curled a shot past the keeper after five minutes.

Okehampton kept the pressure up throughout the first half but failed to make the most of it and went in for the break 1-0 up.

The second half started along the lines of the first with Okehampton looking for a second goal but Chagford equalised ten minutes into the second half then took the lead two minutes later.

Danny Maddax then put on a captain's game as Okehampton clawed their way back. He crashed his first goal into the roof of the net from close range. His second was a more controlled finish, as the ball was crossed from the right-hand side and he slotted the ball into the net. His hat-trick came with ten minutes to go when he latched on to an Adam Mortimer shot and forced the ball over the line.

This gave Okehampton a 4-2 lead but Chagford were not finished and pulled a goal back with five minutes to go.

Okehampton tried their best to run the clock down and with fewer than 30 seconds to go they conceded a corner —from it Chagford made it 4-4, and there was no time left even to take the kick-off.

Both sides then fought hard to get the winner in extra-time but to no avail. It went to the lottery of a penalty shoot out — Chagford held their nerve and went through 5-4, after Adam Mortimer's penalty hit the post.
