THIS January sees The Horn of Plenty at Gulworthy celebrate 21 years of charity lunches, and the restaurant's third year supporting Macmillan Cancer at Derriford Hospital.

From Monday, January 6 until Friday, February 28, every day except Sunday, The Horn of Plenty will be offering a two course lunch for £15, or a three course lunch for £19. After enjoying their meal, guests are invited to make a donation.

The Horn of Plenty has been supporting Macmillan since January 2012. Since then, its charity lunches have raised more than £13,400 for local people affected by cancer.

Owner Julie Leivers said: 'We are delighted to be raising funds for people affected by cancer, as it is a cause that is very close to all our hearts. We are very proud of our tradition of supporting local charities, and want to continue to make a difference in our local community.'

Donations like the support received from The Horn of Plenty have helped with recent developments such as the new metastatic breast cancer Macmillan nurse based at Derriford Hospital, Kate Lansdell.

Kate said: 'I am delighted to be in this new Macmillan-funded role where I am the main contact for patients diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.

'I can explain the different treatments and tests, and I help with advice about symptoms, side effects and pain management.

'I also work very closely with patients' families, trying to ease their worries and helping to explain what's happening.'

Sian Ward Edwards, Macmillan fundraising manager, added: 'It's Macmillan support like this that is funded by donations, and that's why we are so grateful for the continued generosity of The Horn of Plenty's guests.

'I would urge everyone to book their charity lunch soon. Not only will you enjoy a wonderful fine dining experience, but by donating, you will also be helping someone in your community who is fighting cancer.'
