OKEHAMPTON'S 'lottery luck' continues with yet another £1,000 prize-winner in the Hospiscare Lottery.

Top prize tickets bought in Okehampton have provided windfalls for five ladies, the latest being Doris Flockton, who lives in the town.

But the excited winner is not rushing out to spend the money just yet: 'I am sure there are some good causes that could benefit from this — I'm not going to spend it all on myself, it's nice to share,' she said.

Since the first lottery draw in May last year, Okehampton has seen 87 prize-winners share 107 prizes to the value of £6,210 with five first prizes.

The charity has nine shops in the county, Axminster being the second luckiest with three big cash winners.

Hospiscare Lottery manager Michael Goodwin said: 'It really is amazing just how many prizes have come to Okehampton.

'We have nearly 300 members in Okehampton and that is about 10 per cent of our membership in the whole of the area that we cover in Devon — however, their share of prizes is greater than that.'

Mr Goodwin said the charity really appreciated the support being shown in Okehampton for the hospice and the local community nurses.

The Lottery Club, with its £1,500 weekly prizes, provides Hospiscare with a regular source of income and is vital to the future of the local charity which does so much for people with life-threatening illnesses in the field of palliative care.
