PUPILS at Tavistock Primary School are set to benefit from some new equipment, thanks to a generous donation from a town organisation. Tavistock Freemasons Lodge, one of the oldest in Devon, has donated £1,200 to the school to provide state-of-the-art IT equipment for children with learning difficulties. Members of the lodge had heard about a youngster at the school who has an autistic syndrome condition and decided to raise the funds to provide a touch-screen computer system. The equipment will follow the pupil throughout his stay at the primary school, although it will also be available for other youngsters as well. Joe Flynn, headteacher at the primary school, said he was delighted by the news. ?It will be a fantastic resource which will contribute to our ethos of making maximum progress possible for children with special needs,? said Mr Flynn. ?It?s nice to be recognised as being a specialist centre in this area and it?s brilliant the local community are able to support us in this way. ?I?m delighted ? not just for the pupils but for the staff as well to have such high quality tools to work with and which we would find difficult to fund from our normal sources.? Barry Heartfield, master of the Bedford Lodge, said although the lodge was more than 200 years old, and Freemasonry was very ancient, its members liked to support up to the minute solutions for contemporary needs. ?Investing in the education of our children is close to the hearts of all Freemasons,? said Mr Heartfield.
