THE West Devon Primary School tag rugby finals, part of the School Games, are organised by local sports charity OCRA, with the top eight teams from the area coming together at Okehampton College.

Teams were made up of girls and boys and came from Whitchurch, Hatherleigh, Lady Modiford’s Buckland Monachorum, South Tawton. Chagford, Meavy, Okehampton and Tavistock.

The standard of ball handling and movement was high, with great flowing rugby from all teams throughout the event. After competitive pool stages Whitchurch v South Tawton and Chagford v Okehampton ended up as the semi finals.

Organisers thanked the young rugby  leaders from Okehampton College who officiated superbly throughout.  

Stuart Lord, on behalf of OCRA, said: ’The final had a fantastic atmosphere with end to end play but it was Okehampton coming out on top against a very strong Whitchurch team.’

Tag rugby trials for team West Devon as part of the Devon Youth Games will be on June 15 at OCRA Sportsfield at 5pm. All young people in school years 6,5 and 4 are able to attend.
