A SEMINAR on local sourcing, food miles and consumer choice will be staged in Okehampton next month to examine what opportunities they present for the farming community.
The seminar is being jointly organised by chartered accountants and business advisers, Simpkins Edwards, Lloyds TSB and Taste of the West.
Partner with Simpkins Edwards, Mary Jane Campbell, who will be speaking about measuring profit with success, said: 'We all acknowledge the power and influence of the major supermarket chains and it is essential to monitor any changes in their purchasing policies and to identify opportunities for the South West farming community.
'Opportunities are often accompanied by hidden threats and this seminar aims to clarify how the agricultural community can benefit from local sourcing of produce.
'From past experience, these are lively meetings spurring much debate.'
The chief executive of Taste of the West, John Sheaves, will speak about the opportunities for adding value to businesses, and David Fowler of Lloyds TSB will be discussing financing for the diversified farm business.
The Local Sourcing, Opportunities and Threats seminar will take place at the White Hart Hotel, Okehampton on Thursday March 26 at 6.30 pm. To reserve a place Sharon Roberts at Simpkins Edwards on 01392 211233 or email [email protected]">[email protected].
