CHAGFORD Show on August 15 intends to have livestock classes this year subject to DEFRA regulations, the organiser has confirmed.
Unlike Okehampton Show, which has decided to 'play safe' and go ahead without cattle and sheep, Chagford is responding to demand from local farmers and exhibitors.
'It is very important that local exhibitors have a chance to show their animals given the devastation of foot and mouth last year,' he said.
'Eighty per cent of the cattle and sheep that come here are from local farms so we will try and preserve that if we can.
'If the regulations say we have to preclude exhibitors from other counties then so be it.'
DEFRA has told Mr Lewis that it has not finalised restrictions on agricultural shows although the signs are that they will be relaxed for one-day events.
'We hope the restrictions will be workable and as Chagford was not an infected area it may not be as difficult for us as it is for Okehampton,' he said.
'Chagford Show will be very much back to normal this year.'
As well as livestock, there will be heaps of horse classes, a flower show, dog show, rural crafts, vintage vehicles and a grand parade.
The main ring attraction has not yet been decided but the Widecombe Wag will be in attendance and terrier racing is sure to draw in the crowds.
Chagford Show Committee in conjunction with the National Trust is building a new bridge over the River Teign which will link to an additional parking area to improve the car parking situation.
Now more than 100 years old the event has remained true to its agricultural roots.
Its situation in deepest Dartmoor surrounded by the National Trust's spectacular Castle Drogo estate makes it popular with tourists.
Mr Lewis said farmers were very keen to get back to showing as it was a shop window for them and he expected to see many exhibiting who reared livestock on the moor.
