MORE than 30 people turned out to help clear rubbish in Tavistock with Tidy Tavi on Saturday morning, including some new helpers young and old.

All the usual areas were visited, along with some sites further afield, such as both approaches to the town along the A386. Thirty sacks of general rubbish and three containing items for recycling were collected. The group is pleased to report that very few areas were heavily littered.

But many members were annoyed and frustrated to find that significant amounts of rubbish had been deposited in a few black spots already by Sunday morning. This mainly seems to have resulted from fast food detritus being dumped from parked or moving vehicles.

This month's haul of unusual items included a plastic baseball bat or truncheon, a leather cricket ball and a discarded size 10 boot.

Tidy Tavi's next foray will be on Saturday, April 6. Everyone is welcome to participate. Meet outside the Wharf at 9.50am.

Litter pickers, bags and hi-vis tabards will be provided.
