WREN Trust, the Okehampton-based community folk arts organisation is organising its first concert in the village of Bridestowe.
The concert will feature versatile Dorset folksinger, songwriter and concertina player Tim Laycock, supported by Marilyn Tucker, Paul Wilson and Chris Foster.
Tim Laycock has built his reputation as an engaging performer through recordings and appearances in concerts, festivals, folk clubs and on radio and TV throughout the UK, Europe and around the world for the past 25 years.
He is best known in this area for his work with Red Spider Drama Company. Last year he wrote and directed the very successful adaptation of the Baring-Gould novel Kitty Alone, which they played to packed houses at Bratton Clovelly in October.
For this concert Tim will be joined by Marilyn Tucker and Paul Wilson and singer/guitarist Chris Foster. Marilyn and Paul are well known throughout the area via their work with Wren Trust. Their vast repertoire of songs and stories covers everything from ancient ballads collected right here in West Devon to new songs which they write themselves. Old or new, their songs are delivered with sparkling harmonies accompanied on accordion, fiddle and guitar.
Chris Foster has an established reputation as one of the country's finest performers of English traditional songs. He is an outstanding singer, with some of the most accomplished and sensitive guitar accompaniments you are likely to hear.
The evening, which is organised as part of Wren Trust's Baring-Gould Heritage Project, promises to be a relaxed and friendly event suitable for all ages.
It is also a chance to sample some of the music which will be on offer at the third Baring-Gould Folk Festival and study break which will be held in Bridestowe, Lewdown and Bratton Clovelly from October 22 to 28.
The Bridestowe concert starts at 8pm tomorrow (Friday). Tickets £5 (concessions £3) including tea, coffee or a soft drink.
