A COFFEE morning to raise funds for WaterAid is due to take place in Tavistock this weekend, organised by the town's Lions Club.
Lions Clubs International are involved with humanitarian projects in Malawi and Nepal through the charity WaterAid and all Lions Clubs in this country have been asked to hold a fundraising event in support of the United Nations World Water Day which took place recently.
The Tavistock club event will be held in the parish rooms this Saturday (April 14) with the doors opening from 10am to 12.30pm.
Coffee, tea and home-made cakes will be available and there will be the opportunity to talk to members of the Lions Club to find out how the charity is helping to transform the lives of people in those countries.
There will also be a raffle and second-hand book stall and a display of the other activities with which Tavistock Lions are involved.
Members of the public will also have the opportunity to talk to the Lions about their 'Message in a Bottle' scheme which is designed, in the event of an emergency, to help vulnerable people living on their own.
A plastic bottle containing details of the person concerned, their medication, their next of kin and information on any pets that they may have, is placed in a cupboard or fridge.
A 'Message in the Bottle' sticker is placed on the outside and a similar one in a window near the front door so that if the emergency services have to attend, then they have immediate details of the person with whom they are dealing, thus saving valuable time.
Bottles and stickers are available from a number of places around the town and further information can be obtained by calling the Lions Club on 0845 8334807.
