A SET of faulty lamps in Okehampton's Simmons Park are to be repaired, following a series of letters to the town council from local residents.

Vital repair work to the set of lights that lead from Simmons Park car park to Okehampton Argyle Football Club has been given the go-ahead by Okehampton Town Council after it discussed the issue at the latest parks committee meeting.

The council had received a number of letters and complaints about the lights from local residents who use the path at night.

Chairman of the committee cllr Dave Weekes said: 'For people using the football club, for Okehampton Running Club and others using the path in the dark it could be dangerous, especially with the bad weather we're having.

'It is work that needs to be carried out as soon as possible, and important for people using the park.'

Councillors spoke about the possibility of replacing the lights altogether in the next financial year, provided the money will be available.

The repair work to the existing lights will be carried out as soon as possible.
