THANKS to the British Heart Foundation and its many local supporters Chagford Health Centre now has a defibrillator.
Doctors Wood, Wollaston and Claridge accepted the piece of equipment which restarts the heart after a cardiac arrest from Bernie Steed OBE, Devon Area Organiser for the BHF on Friday.
The doctors, who have undertaken training in emergency cardiac resuscitation techniques and use of the defibrillator, said they were very grateful to the organisation and its many supporters in the Chagford area.
'The health centre and its staff is reassured by the knowledge that should a cardiac arrest occur there is now this invaluable defibrillator immediately available in the vicinity of the surgery,' said a spokesperson
The BHF, which also donated a defibrillator to Chagford Fire Station in 1999, has funded 50 per of the cost of the equipment with the remaining 50 per cent coming from the North and East Devon Health Authority.
People who have helped the cause include the late Mary Spear of the Moorland Hotel who organised fundraising dinner/dances and staff at Mee's Dispensing Chemist.
