I WAS heartened to see that someone who read my letter concerning donations to our charity shops (January 28), responded with similar views.

My fellow volunteers have also supported me and for a while, I felt cheered but my eloquence has evaporated.

At a recent shift where several bags of donations were processed were a stained T-shirt, a rusty frying pan and a box of dusty books, mostly torn.

I wonder whether the donors of these unsaleable items realise that the charity has to dispose of these at cost to them?

Thousands of wasted pounds, which could be spent on improving the lives of vulnerable people, are now being paid out to dispose of your rubbish.

Please donate thoughtfully and thank you to the majority whose lovely things raise much money for worthy causes.
