I AM appalled at the abuse directed by some vegans at Lifton Strawberry Fields Farm Shop — plus the menacing targeting of clients of this popular business — just because they invited customers to name a newly born calf (Times, March 10).
Also I am most disappointed the police felt obliged to advise that the competition be removed from the shop’s Facebook page.
One hopes that in the interest of justice, the constabulary are trying to identify the intolerant bigots responsible for such poisonous behaviour.
As it is, these dictatorial bullies, displaying tendencies owing more to fascism than democratic principles, have triumphed; a well regarded country store has suffered shameful intimidation when clearly they have done nothing wrong, either legally or morally.
One hopes that vegans with respect for the law and the rights of the wider community, assuredly the majority, will put their heads ‘above the parapet’ and condemn a form of self righteous terrorism by a smallish minority albeit a vindictive and twisted one.
