REPRESENTATIVES from West Devon churches joined a large congregation at a prayer event held recently in Exeter Cathedral.
More than 200 people heard about plans for a mission weekend taking place in the county in the autumn.
'Let's do it' — the title of the weekend — is for people from a wide variety of communities and the aim is to open the doors of local churches to explain about Christianity and encourage and support existing church people to share their faith with others.
The chairman of the planning and training team is the Archdeacon of Exeter, the Ven Tony Tremlett.
'The parishes represented at the prayer event are pioneers in the Diocese. But "Let's do it" isn't a one-off weekend — it's just a beginning,' said Tony. 'Other parishes in future years will benefit from their experience.'
Ideas for possible mission events include a harvest service in the local pub, a coffee morning, people-friendly Sunday worship or an exhibition or open day in church.
Events that have been run in other dioceses include an evening for young parents on questions children ask or a 6am men's breakfast for local farmers.
'Let's do it' takes place in more than 50 parishes across Devon during the weekend September 29 to October 1.
