AS one of the producers in the Okehampton Farmers? Market. I am very concerned by the suggestion that we should be no longer allowed to hire the Charter Hall to run our market.

None of us wishes to be squeezed into the other market and feel that we are running a different sort of market.

I have nothing against the regular market and shop there myself. However, I feel that our products, which all have to be reared, grown or made by ourselves, are totally different from second hand goods, for example.

Many of us enjoy shopping in markets and feel that there should be room in Okehampton for us all. Our leaflets and posters refer to the Charter Hall and our regular customers know where to find us after nearly six years of trading there and cannot buy our local organic and home-made products elsewhere in Okehampton.

As for ?community use?, every resident of the area is welcome to our market, but weddings would be for invited guests only!

I AM writing in reference to your front page article on July 29.

Just when everyone is encouraged to buy locally, Okehampton Town council want to upseat the successful farmers? market and put it under threat.

I can see why the stallholders would need the Charter Hall facilities. The whole market has a bit of bustle about it once a month.

As Okehampton is surrounded by farms in all directions, and has a very successful agricultural show it is an insult to imply the farmers? market is not part of the community.
