I MEAN no disrespect, but I can't help noticing that the contributing Tavistock councillors to your recent article, now followed up by an invitation for a petition, all live or have recently lived at prestigious addresses in Whitchurch.
I feel it necessary to point out that sustained selective development does not necessarily mean a downgrading in Tavistock nor its immediate environment. Quite to the contrary. Do we want to live in a timewarp exclusive to commuters and retired affluent residents and let our young people and our long-term local residents fall away to preserve the rising inflated house prices?
I would suggest that we really want a thriving market town with a cross-section of ages and diverse backgrounds to complement our history and working for the benefit of all Tavistock.
I would ask our residents to take great care, as have the local plan working group and officers when preparing the Local Plan, to ensure we have a balanced and progressive view in responding in the consultation process by May 21.
Caroline Keane
Tavistock Town and West Devon Borough Cllr (Independent)
