ON Saturday dedicated swimmers swam the annual Swimathon to raise funds for Marie Curie nurses at Meadowlands leisure pool in Tavistock.
First swimmers were in the water at 5pm aiming at swimming 5,000 metres (200 lengths!).
The team from Tavistock Swim Club (team black and yellow) finished first in 1 hour 5 min 25 sec, next was Meadowlands staff team (Smiffy's Super Stars) in 1 hr 19 min 18sec, hotly followed by Vince Handford, the first individual swimmer, who completed 5K on his own in 1.24.50.
The remaining swimmers kept up a steady pace, Karen McClung finished in 2.17.30 and Stewart Pearce finished in 1.53.40 sec. Stewart now has 21 Swimathon medals as he makes this swim every year! Well done everybody! Christine Gallie, Swim School principal, said: 'Everyone enjoyed themselves with lots of team members saying they will have on go on their own next year.'
