DEVON Car Free Day has transformed the lives of some commuters in recent years, and commuters in Westy Devon are again being urged to leave their cars at home for this year's event on Thursday September 22.

The annual event is organised as part of Devon County Council's Sustainable Travel campaign and supports the 'International In Town Without My Car Day'.

Although people have tried fun ways to travel to work, for some it has acted as a catalyst to completely re-think how they travel to work.

Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Council cabinet member for highways and transportation, said: 'People from right across the county surprise us every year in coming up with new ways to travel to school and work on Devon Car Free Day. Everyone's effort is appreciated, and while some take a fun approach to the day, the message is not lost that this is about green travel and cutting congestion.'

People are asked to email details of their intended travel choices to [email protected]">[email protected] before Devon Car Free Day. For more information about Devon Car Free Day visit http://www.devon.gov.uk/carfreeday">www.devon.gov.uk/carfreeday
