IN division one of the Okehampton and District Table Tennis League, Tavistock A regained top spot after The Young Ones lost their unbeaten record away at Okehampton A.

Tony Howick (playing with a bat borrowed from the opposing team) turned in a superb performance to beat both George and Edward Haskell in five sets and then to come through against Andy Moppett to secure a fine maximum.

Barry Denner also managed to beat both Edward and Andy, and Tony and Barry took the doubles against George and Edward to win 7-3 on the night.

Okehampton A scorers were Tony Howick (3), Barry Denner (2), John Squire (1).

The Young Ones scores were George Haskell (2), Edward Haskell (1), Andy Moppett (0).

Tavistock A received 10 points for a walkover against Bridestowe who were unable to raise a team.

This now takes them six points clear at the top of division one.

Anchorage B entertained The J Team and were unfortunate to suffer another 10-0 defeat.

In his match with Sarah Jackson, Dave Wilson fought hard to win the third game against Sarah 20-18 to take a 2-1 lead.

In the fourth game Dave had four match points, but somehow from being 6-10 behind, Sarah came back to level at two games all with a 10-12 win before winning the fifth.

Frank Cockburn teamed up with Sarah against Jenny and Roger Gilbert to win the doubles 11-5, 7-11, 6-11, 6-11.

The bonus point now moves The J Team up into third spot in division one. Anchorage B scores were Dave Wilson (0), Roger Gilbert (0), Jenny Gilbert (0). The J Team scores were Nick Jackson (3), Frank Cockburn (3), Sarah Jackson (3).

In division two, Oke Young Ones B were only able to field two players against Milton Abbot.

Oke Young Ones B player Harry Bryant did well to take Milton Abbot's Mark Cousins (who has only lost one game this season) to five sets just losing 8-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 8-11.

Ian Osborne and Michael Blatchford teamed up against Harry Bryant and Munkela Elkins to win the doubles 3-11, 6-11, 11-3, 9-11 giving Milton Abbot a 10-0 win which takes them 5 points clear at the top of division two.

This season has proved to be one of the most open for years and with the first half drawing to a close it is anyone's guess who will finally take either the titles this year.
