THE Tamar Cricket League has a new sponsor. Roger Young Land Rover is helping to boost interest and support for village cricket after signing a sponsorship deal with the league.

The league comprises eleven village cricket teams along the Devon/Cornwall border. The season will involve two sets of league matches played on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and a cup tournament.

Roger Young, dealer principal at the Saltash-based dealership, said: 'The Tamar Cricket League is the perfect sponsorship choice for LandRover, as the sport, like its vehicles, combines grace and precision with power and excitement.

'Village cricket is very important to this area, and being a cricket fan myself, I'm thrilled we're able to give them our support.'

The season, which began last Saturday and finishes on September 21, is comprised of 22 Saturday matches of 40 overs, and an evening league during the middle of the season of 20 overs played on Tuesdays. There will also be a knockout cup tournament with the final being played on August 4.

League chairman Mike Pike said: 'The success of the league is reliant on sponsorships such as this, and Roger Young's financial support is allowing us to ensure the league continues to enjoy what will now be its 13th season.'
