THE first of a series of booklets covering transport access in West Devon has been published by the West Devon Transport Access Group.

A wide range of transport related information is included in the publication — public transport and community transport services in the area, cycling and walking opportunities, school and college transport and initiatives such as the Car Share Devon scheme and Devon Wheels2Work .

Anne Kingdon, West Devon Transport Access development worker said: 'This is for everyone's use, all ages and mobilities will find information suitable for regular or occasional transport needs.

'The information has been sourced from many different organisations and users will find it very convenient to have all this within one publication.

'There are also plans within our Rural Transport Access project to make this information available electronically which will make it possible to keep it up to date.'

Devon County Councillor Christine Marsh said: 'I am delighted that this information has now been made available in one booklet.

'There is a lot of information here that many people may not be aware of and this has been an opportunity to co-ordinate it.

'I hope more people will now use the services that are available within West Devon.'

Devon County Council Councillor for Hatherleigh and Chagford James McInnes also supported the project.

'We're delighted to make these booklets available at our surgeries. I'm sure that our residents will find them extremely useful.' he said.

The booklet is to be delivered to households in Hatherleigh, Okehampton and area and will also be available at various locations, including the Ockment Centre, Hatherleigh Community Centre, Okehampton Hospital, Okehampton Library, the Citizens' Advice Bureau and the Tourist Information Centre.

It is also available at West Devon Connect's outreach surgeries run by West Devon Borough Council this summer and autumn, including Hatherleigh Market, Exbourne, North Tawton and Lifton.

Other transport-related advice is available at these venues in addition to a wide range of services. Alternatively call 05601 271840 to arrange to receive your household's copy.

The booklet was produced with financial support from Devon Renaissance, West Devon Borough Council, Devon Rural Transport Partnership and Devon County Council.
