A WEST Devon theatre company is set to launch a new video game next week, created by young people from Dartmoor.
MED Theatre has worked with the youngsters to create the 'Loricum' game, based on true events that took place on Dartmoor when a valley was flooded to create a reservoir, causing controversy in the community.
The youngsters, aged between 13 and 18, have created the video game from start to finish with training from professionals.
They have planned and scripted the game and puzzle structure, created the artwork, made stop-motion animations, filmed and edited a trailer and even produced the coding to enable the game structure to function.
The characters and plot are based on a play written collaboratively by MED Theatre's young people and local playwright Mark Beeson in 2006.
MED Theatre is a developmental community theatre organisation, which has grown and expanded over 21 years offer one large scale community play and other drama and media projects throughout the year.
The video game will be launched at the MED Theatre studio in Moretonhampstead on July 8 from 6pm to 8pm.
Guests will be the first to try out the game and will be able to talk to the youngsters about their experience and process of the project. Numbers for the launch are limited so anyone who would like to attend please contact the MED Theatre at [email protected]">[email protected] or visit the website at http://www.medtheatre.co.uk">www.medtheatre.co.uk
